Hey everyone! Today I'm going to share with you all one of my most exciting weekend of recent times. A few weeks back we had Riviera 2K18, the annual cultural fest of VIT Vellore, the biggest college fest of the whole southern circuit. It's one of the many things VIT is famous for. Riviera is a great platform to showcase the talents hidden in everyone of us. From Pro-Shows, with world famous artists rocking the VIT stage, to inter-university MUNs and many more, Riviera truly provides us with all the exposure required to shine!
But for me, the Riviera Experience was a bit different. I was not at the campus at all actually, so I missed Riviera. I was about 700 kms away from campus, making my way towards Calicut Kerala, to participate in one of the biggest ChemE fest at southern India. It is the one and only DRAV, organized by NIT Calicut. So there I was at Calicut, with few of my batch-mates and seniors. We reached at the 16th of February. The college provided us with accommodation as soon as we arrived there. The Chemistry department was a sight to behold. It was grand! the very next day we had our competition, so we slept early.
After having some spicy dosas for breakfast in the morning, me and my teammates, Lakshmi and Keerthana, headed out for the venue. The competition we participated on was Chem-E Car. In Chem-E Car, we basically have to make a car, propel it by a chemical reaction, and also stop it at a particular distance using a chemical mechanism. I won't go into the details as it be a bit tedious to public ears. So there we went, feeling a bit nervous, towards the department. There were many competitors, from various other colleges, so we were a bit intimidated and nervous. But we had confident on our model and our preparation, so we held our heads high. The competition started after some time. They had a track which our car had to cover. The way it works is that, each team gets 3 chances, and best of the 3 is considered, and scored based on the distance covered. We covered the whole track on our first turn itself! The crowd cheer after that is really an unforgettable moment. The 2nd try we failed, but we nailed it again on the third! The judges really appreciated. It was that, no first years were able to do this feat before us. It was really a wonderful feeling, that sense of accomplishment. We were awarded the third prize, and out happiness went off-bounds! Each one of got a certificate and a thousand rupees each. It was a day well spent, one can say! On the evening we went out to the city and a great time there. Calicut is really beautiful, and there's also this thing I noticed, Malyali people are very helpful in nature. The next day we boarded our train, and headed back for VIT.
So, all in all my "Riviera Experience" was very much unique! I can also call it my "Calicut Experience"!
